Pick up points for this tour will be in Des Moines, and possibly Norwalk, Indianola, Martensdale, Bevington, Leon, Osceola, or Decatur (This depends on where the sign ups reside)

Departure times will be determined 2 weeks prior to trip when we know where everyone is from.

11:00 am - Lunch appointment at the "Dutch Pantry" (included in tour cost)

12:30 pm - We will meet our guide for a tour of the countryside And we will stop at several of the Amish/Mennonite stores. They sell many grocery items in bulk. They also sell wonderful baked goods in the bakeries. We should have some time after tour for shopping in town.

3:30-4:00 - Depart for home

Amana Day Trip
May 17, 2012

Pick up points and departure times for this tour will be set 2-3 weeks ahead of the trip when we know where everyone is from. We try very hard to make them convenient for everyone.

We will plan to be in Amana approximately 1 ½ - 2 hours before our lunch appointment so you will have shopping time in the unique shops.

Your delicious lunch (served family style) is included in the trip cost. We will eat at The Ox Yoke Inn at 12:30.

We will depart after lunch for the Old Creamery Theater at approximately 2:00.

We will arrive at The Old Creamery Theater in time to use restrooms and do some shopping in the Gift Shop.

At 3:00 o'clock, we will see the Play "On Golden Pond" which is also included in trip cost.

We will return home after the Play.

Cost for this day of fun is $135.

Day 1 - June 2nd - Saturday
Pickups as needed
Travel to Leavenworth, KS
Arrive approximately 2:30 PM - Intercontinental Hotel located on Fort Leavenworth
Everyone will be required to have a government issued picture ID (such as a driver's license) because we will be staying on the military fort.
3:15-4:00 PM - Self guided tour of the Frontier Army Museum
4:15-4:45 PM- Meet former Buffalo Soldiers at the Buffalo Soldiers Monument at Fort Leavenworth
4:45-5:45 PM - Guided tour of Fort Leavenworth, the oldest fort west of the Mississippi River in continuous operation
6:00-7:00 PM - Dinner at Santa Fe Depot Diner-781 Shawnee Street
Mashed potatoes, vegetables, meat loaf, roll, tea or coffee, cobbler
*Entertainment by "Possum Holler Four" Barbershop Quartet, dressed in convict outfits

2:10 - Red Barn Studio - Guided Tour (former home and studio of folk artist Lester Raymer) Local guide will join us here for the rest of the day.
3:10 - Arrive at Anton Pearson Studio for a guided tour (former home & studio of wood carver Anton Pearson)

4:00 - Arrive at Birger-Sandzen Memorial Art Gallery
5:15 - 1868 Hoglund Dugout (home to some of the first residents in the Smoky Valley)
5:50 - Coronado Heights - a bluff where Spanish explorer Coronado viewed the valley floor from 300 feet above.
6:15 - Dinner in "The Castle" catered by Scott's Hometown Foods - Return to hotel in McPherson

Day 4 - June 5th - Tuesday

Opera House Tour - group will split and half will go to each and then rotate
10:30 (possible Auto Restoration Tour )

12:30 Depart for Hutchinson, KS
2:00 Arrive at the Kansas Underground Salt Museum
2:30 Do the Salt Blast Past (Includes Gallery Tour, Dark Ride & Train Ride)

Note: Not allowed underground- no food or drinks, audio recording devices, video recording devices including cell phones, knives, pocket knives, guns, box cutters, explosives, mace, pepper spray, tools (hammers, pliers, wire cutters, etc.) lighters, matches, glass items, back packs, and pets. No smoking or chewing underground. Coin operated lockers are located near the restrooms, or you may leave these items on the coach.

An early morning scenic ferry transports you to Vancouver Island to visit the lovely Butchart Gardens. Set on over 55 acres, Butchart Gardens are among the world's most beautiful and are a veritable explosion of color and fragrances. Then, take a short sightseeing tour of the "City of Gardens", Victoria, and enjoy leisure time to explore the seaside city. This evening you will journey back to the mainland via a short ferry ride.

Day 3: Sunday, July 8, 2012
A sightseeing tour of beautiful Vancouver begins at Stanley Park, Canada's renowned urban rainforest that meets the sea. Visit Chinatown - one of the largest in North America - and explore its waterfront. Next, enjoy a visit to Gastown, a turn-of-the century town comprised of pubs, art galleries, boutiques, and its world-famous steam-powered clock, which is perhaps the most photographed subject in all of Vancouver. Today, we journey along the Icefields Parkway, waterfalls, rushing rivers, glacial peaks, inposing cliffs, and snowcapped peaks. Enjoy a stop at Athabasca Falls. Enjoy a ride across a mass of glacial ice over 1,000 feet thick. Look out for bears, furry marmots, and elk. Stop at Peyto Lake. Settle in at "Castle in the Rockies", Fairmont's Banff Springs Hotel, for 3 relaxing nights.
